Reflecting on the World Around Us

I'm very lucky to be able to write this. I'm lucky to be able to have the choice to care or not, to be able to wake up and decide to stand up for my beliefs without being forced to do so by oppression and inequality. I'm lucky to have a safe place to live and be able to express my opinions without fearing for my personal safety. But not everyone's that lucky.
As a creator, Gen Z-er, and human, I've been quiet lately with everything going around the world. Because the truth is, I don't know how to react. Because of my privilege, I've been lucky enough to not have to care. And I think a lot of people are feeling like this too. So here's my take on how to react to the world around us. I'm not expressing any opinions politically or taking a stance, but rather talking about our generation and the platform we have.
Looking at the comments on social media posts, our generation is fired up. We're angry. We know things aren't right in the world, and everyone with a platform has a responsibility to use it to their best ability. While older generations are used to this level of apathy, we are pushing the status quo. We are encouraging brands, corporations, authority figures to do better, in a way they've never seen before.
It's okay to feel overwhelmed. It's okay to be looking through your Instagram stories, or through your Snapchat, and simply feel exhausted. Because this level of instability and uncertainty is something that is new to many of us. Acknowledging this is powerful because it gives us the opportunity to learn and grow; to discover the things we haven't been seeing due to our privilege.
This isn't just about the recent events that prove we haven't grown as a country. It's telling people that in a generation of social media and popularity like never before, we have been gifted with a voice that no other generation has had before. Get fired up. Figure out what you're passionate about, and influence the change around you.
As a generation, we are truly stronger together and can create lasting change in the world. Whatever is on your mind lately, stand up for what you believe in.
Whether it's creating a blog (like we did!), raising money, pushing for change and reform, or simply just outwardly loving others, every bit helps.
